Hours by location

Each branch can have its own hours that override the board's shared ones.

9 min read Updated 2026-07-26

If you run more than one branch, each can keep its own timetable: the main shop 09:00–19:00, the small studio 10:00–16:00, the one in the mall open on Sundays too. It is configured from the same Setup → Working hours page — except here you edit one branch at a time.

There is one thing to understand before you touch anything: this page ALWAYS writes to a location. There is no “board hours” screen in the current admin. The board’s hours are only a fallback, set during the board’s initial setup. Every move you make here creates or changes the selected branch’s own hours.

1. When you even see this feature

LocationsWhat you get
0No editor. Just a hint: Add a location first — working hours live on each branch.
1An editor with no location row — you’re editing your only branch without picking it.
2 or moreA row of pill buttons appears at the top, one per branch.

If you have no branch yet, add one from Catalog → Locations — see How to add a location.

2. The path

  1. Pick the board in the left rail.
  2. Open the Setup hub.
  3. Click Working hours.
  4. Leave the toggle at the top on Business hours (the other mode, Staff schedule, is for people).
  5. With 2+ branches — pick the one you want from the location row.
  6. Stay on the Weekly hours tab.

3. Reading the location row

The buttons are preceded by a LOCATION caption. Then one button per branch:

  • A coloured dot on the left — the branch’s colour, the same one you see in the schedule and in the filters.
  • The branch name.
  • ● (an accent-coloured dot) on the right — shown only on the unselected branches, meaning Has its own hours. Hover for the tooltip.

A branch without that dot has no hours of its own yet — it is currently using the board’s fallback.

Switching branch is instant and loses nothing: whatever you changed a second ago is already on its way to the server.

4. Your first edit is the important one

Here is what happens under the hood when you open an untouched branch:

  1. The editor shows the board’s hours (the fallback). They look like the branch’s hours — but they aren’t.
  2. The moment you change anything — a time, a day, a break — the branch gets its own hours saved: a copy of what was displayed, plus your change.
  3. From then on the branch no longer follows the fallback. Changing the fallback will not affect it.

There is no “back to the fallback” button. Once a branch has its own hours, the admin cannot un-link it. To restore the old picture you retype the hours by hand.

5. The fallback is not an outer bound

The most widespread wrong expectation: “the board is 09:00–18:00, so no branch can work longer”. Not so.

The rule is “the first level that says something wins”:

LevelOrder
Resource (the person)1 — most specific
Location (the branch)2
Board (the fallback)3 — most general

For a given date:

  • If any level explicitly says closed → closed. Done, the lower levels aren’t asked.
  • If a level says open → it supplies both the start and the end. No intersection with the level above.
  • If the level is silent (no rule for that day) → the next one is asked.
  • If they’re all silent → it falls back to the resource’s own flat window.

So a branch on 08:00–21:00 under a board on 09:00–18:00 works 08:00–21:00. The board is a fallback, not a ceiling.

The only exception is breaks — they are combined across levels instead of replaced. Details in Breaks & lunch.

6. What you edit in the branch panel

The panel is the familiar weekly editor. Per branch you set:

  • Which days are Open and which are closed.
  • Each day’s From and To (15-minute steps).
  • The day’s breaks.
  • The quick actions Copy Monday to all and Apply 9–18, Mon–Sat — careful, they rewrite this branch’s whole week and go through an Overwrite the whole week? confirmation.

Two things that are not in the location panel:

  • Date overrides — hidden in location mode. For single dates use Holidays.
  • The per-day location chip — that lives only in Staff schedule, because only a person can move between branches. Switching branch on a given day is a property of the person, not the building.

7. Holidays are a separate layer — but they know about branches

The Holidays tab sits next to Weekly hours and is shared by the board — you see the same entries whichever branch is selected in the location row.

Each entry, though, carries an Applies to field: All locations or specific branches. That’s how you shut the Vitosha branch for a refit while the main shop trades. See Closures & holidays.

8. Who works at which branch

A branch’s hours say when the building is open. They don’t say who is inside.

  • Each person has a per-day location chip in Staff schedule → Working hours — that’s where you say whether they’re at the main shop or the mall on Monday. There’s also an All locations option for people who roam.
  • For a one-off move use Special days — one day at another branch, optionally with different hours.
  • If a person has nothing set, they count as being at the board’s primary location.

The upshot: a branch can be open but empty. The public page will then show no free times for any service that requires a staff member. See Find out why a service shows no free times.

9. Services have an opinion too

Any service can be restricted to specific branches (the Locations section of the service editor). If the service isn’t offered at the selected branch, there will be no slots there even with perfect hours and an available stylist.

The check runs both ways:

Branch openService offered thereA suitable resourceResult
yesyesyesFree times appear
yesyesnoNo times — no resource
yesnoyesNo times — the service isn’t for this branch
noyesyesNo times — the branch is closed

See Services per location.

10. A deactivated branch disappears everywhere

A location can be deactivated (for instance on a plan downgrade, when you’re over the locations limit). A deactivated location:

  • is not shown on the public page;
  • takes no part in availability;
  • doesn’t count towards the plan’s limit.

Its hours are kept intact and come back if you reactivate it. See Close or remove a location.

11. One timezone per board

A location does carry a timezone field in the database, but the admin doesn’t offer it and availability doesn’t read it. One business — one timezone, set in the board’s Setup → Settings.

If you ever end up with branches in different timezones, give them separate boards.

12. Saving and the check afterwards

  • There is no Save button. It writes automatically about half a second after your last change.
  • Switch branch or leave the tab right after an edit and the change is still sent — nothing is lost.
  • After a successful save a check appears below: Checking availability…, then a green or amber result. The amber one lists the services that will now show clients an empty grid and offers a Fix link.
  • On a server error you get Change wasn’t saved — try again. and the screen reverts to the last saved state.
  • The public page can be up to a minute behind the new hours — there is a short cache.

13. When you do NOT need hours by location

Don’t give branches their own hours “just in case”. Every branch with its own hours is one more thing to maintain and one more place to get it wrong. If all branches work the same, leave them on the fallback.

Good reasons to split:

  • The mall branch follows the mall’s opening hours.
  • The small studio opens later on Mondays.
  • One branch trades on Sundays, the other doesn’t.
