Close or remove a location

Temporarily close a branch or remove it — and what happens to its bookings.

5 min read Updated 2026-07-26

There is a difference between “we’re shut for two weeks for refurbishment” and “this branch no longer exists”. Mountify has no “close temporarily” button — it has working hours, holidays, and removal. This article explains which tool for which case, and exactly what happens to everything attached to the branch.

There is no “location active” switch. The only case where a location is taken out of service without being deleted is automatic, on a plan downgrade. You have no manual button for it.

1. Which tool for which case

CaseWhat to do
A holiday, time off, a few days of refurbishmentAdd a holiday for that location
Closed indefinitely, but we’ll be backMark every day closed in that branch’s working hours
Stopping online booking altogether (everywhere)Turn off Online booking for the whole board
The branch is closed for goodRemove the location — after the prep in §4

2. Closing temporarily for specific dates

This is the right route for a refurbishment, a holiday break or a public holiday.

  1. Setup → Working hours.
  2. If you have several locations, pick the branch pill.
  3. Open the Holidays tab.
  4. Drag across the days in the calendar to mark the period, or press Add holiday.
  5. On the right choose Closed all day or Reduced hours and enter the times.
  6. In Applies to choose whether it covers All locations or just this branch.

Result: for those dates there are no free times only at this branch. The others carry on normally. The location stays, the services stay, everything resumes after the period.

3. Closing indefinitely

If you don’t know when you’re reopening, the cleanest way is to empty the week:

  1. Setup → Working hours → Business hours (not “Staff schedule”).
  2. Pick the branch pill.
  3. Turn the Open switch off for all seven days.

A warning appears: “The whole week is closed — With every day closed, customers can not book online. Open at least one day (or add a date exception below).” In this case that is exactly what you want.

The location still appears in the branch picker on the public page, but has no free times at all.

If you want the branch not to show at all while it’s shut, remove it from the Locations section of every service. Tedious with many services, but it’s the only way to hide it without deleting it.

4. Before you remove a location — mandatory prep

Removal is irreversible. Work through this list:

  • Open Bookings and filter the upcoming bookings at that branch.
  • Move them to another branch, or call the clients.
  • Check which resources call it their home location (the “N resources” badge on its card). Give them another one.
  • Check which services are restricted to it alone — those will become unbookable.
  • Check the staff schedule — who works there on which days.
  • If it’s the primary branch, make another one primary first.

5. How to remove it

  1. Catalog → Locations.
  2. Hover the branch card and press Edit.
  3. At the bottom left of the dialog there is a red Remove button.
  4. A confirmation appears — Remove this branch? — reading:

“Its staff and equipment will be detached from this location. Existing bookings keep their record. This can’t be undone.”

  1. Press Remove branch to confirm, or Cancel to back out.

6. What happens to everything attached

ObjectWhat happens
Existing bookingsPreserved. Their record stays, including the branch name in the history
Resources with this home locationDetached. They stay on the board but with no home location
The branch’s working hoursGone along with the location
Services allowed only hereThey remain, but have nowhere to be offered — they become unbookable
Holidays for this branch onlyGone
Packages restricted to this branchThey remain, but lose their valid location
Reports and paymentsUnchanged. Money history doesn’t depend on locations

The most dangerous line is the penultimate one: a service restricted only to the removed branch quietly stops being bookable. The board’s Home page will warn you, but it is far easier to fix before removal than after.

7. Automatic removal from service on a downgrade

If you drop to a lower plan and have more locations than it allows, Mountify deletes nothing. The surplus locations (newest first) are taken out of service:

  • they disappear from the public page;
  • they stop counting against the plan limit;
  • their bookings and data are kept.

Restore the plan, or buy the Extra location add-on (€9 per month), and they come back.

See Add spots & locations and Plan limits & locks.

8. If you removed something by mistake

There is no undelete for a location. Here is what you can do:

  1. Create a new location with the same name and address.
  2. Restore the home location on the resources that were detached.
  3. Set its working hours again.
  4. Check the Locations section on the services that were restricted.
  5. Check the staff schedule.

Existing bookings keep their record and aren’t damaged — but the new location is a new record, and the old bookings do not re-attach to it.
