Change your sign-in email

It's self-service: the code goes to the NEW address, and that address is what you sign in with afterwards.

Your email is more than a contact detail — it is the identity you sign in with. That’s why you don’t just type over it in a field: it changes through a short verified flow where a 6-digit code is sent to the new address and you type it back.

The change is self-service. There is no administrator who can do it for you — not the business owner, not support. If you’ve read “ask your administrator” anywhere, that is no longer true.

1. Where it is

  1. Click your avatar at the bottom of the narrow icon rail on the left.
  2. Choose User settings.
  3. The Personal section opens. Find the Email field — it’s greyed out and not typeable, with a Change button beside it.

If your account has no email yet (it happens on very old profiles) the field reads “Not set” and the button says Add. The flow is identical.

2. Step by step

  1. Press Change. A Change email address dialog opens, explaining “We’ll send a confirmation code to the new address.”
  2. In the New email address field type the address you want to use from now on. Under the field you’ll see your current address as a reminder (“Current address: …”).
  3. Press Send code.
  4. The dialog moves to its second step: “Enter the code sent to …”. Open your new inbox — the message is titled “Confirm your new email address”.
  5. Type the six digits into the Confirmation code field.
  6. Press Confirm.
  7. On success the dialog closes and you get “Email changed successfully.” The Email field now shows the new address.

If the code is slow to arrive, there’s a Resend button under the field. It stays disabled while the “New code in N s” countdown runs; once it hits zero, press it for a fresh code.

Cancel closes the dialog without changing anything. The old address stays.

3. The code goes to the NEW address — not the old one

That’s the single most important sentence here. The check is whether you control the address you’re moving to, so the code email goes to the new address.

What follows from it:

  • If you mistyped the address, no email arrives anywhere — just press Cancel, start again and type it carefully.
  • If the new address is a work one you don’t have access to yet, wait: the flow cannot finish without the code.
  • The old address gets a notice email after a successful change, titled “Your account email was changed”. It’s informational and needs no action — but if such an email lands and you changed nothing, change your password at once and turn on two-factor authentication.

More about the code:

DetailValue
Code length6 digits
Valid forabout 10 minutes
Wrong attempts allowed5; after that the flow restarts
Resendno sooner than 60 seconds
Language of the emailwhatever you picked in the Language section

Note: if you request codes to the same new address many times in one day, the wait between requests grows step by step (seconds, then minutes, then hours). That’s protection against flooding somebody else’s inbox. If you’ve hit it, wait as long as the message says — there’s no way to speed it up.

4. That address is what you sign in with afterwards

Once the change succeeds:

  • On the sign-in screen you type the new email. The old one no longer works.
  • Your password stays the same. Changing the email does not reset it.
  • Two-factor authentication stays on if it was on. The code from your authenticator app keeps working; the label inside the app may still show the old address, which is only a caption and harmless.
  • You are not signed out. Your current session continues.
  • All your data, roles and memberships stay — it’s the same account with a different address.

5. The errors you may see

6. Got a pending invitation? Change the email BEFORE accepting it

Workspace invitations are issued to a specific address and checked on acceptance. If someone invited your old address and you change your email in the meantime, the invitation stops working: accepting it shows “This invitation is for a different account”, explaining “Sent to …, but you’re signed in as …”.

The right order is one of these two:

  1. Accept the invitation first, get into the workspace, and then change your email — the membership stays.
  2. Or change the email first and ask whoever invited you to cancel the old invitation and send a new one to the new address. How: Pending invitations.

Troubleshooting

No code email arrives. Check the spam folder of the new address. If it’s a work address, a company filter may be holding it. Wait out the countdown and press Resend; if there’s still nothing, try a different address to see whether the problem is the mailbox.

I closed the dialog halfway through. Nothing was changed. Open Change again and start from the top — the earlier code is dead.

I changed my email but I keep typing the old one out of habit and can’t get in. The message is “Wrong email or password.” Type the new address.

I want to remove my email without setting another one. Not possible — it is the sign-in identity.

Common questions

Can the business owner change my email? No. Nobody but you can.

Will clients be notified? No. Clients never see your email and won’t learn about the change.

Can one account have two emails? No. One account, one sign-in address.

Can two accounts share one email? No. The address must be free, otherwise you get “This email is already used by another account.”

Should I change my password too? You don’t have to. But it’s a good idea when you’re moving off an old mailbox that is no longer yours.
