Cancel or pause

How to stop payments — and what happens to your data and bookings.

7 min read Updated 2026-07-26

First things first: there is no pause. No such button exists anywhere in Mountify — you can only move to a smaller plan or cancel. And cancelling is not harmless: on the day your paid period ends, your public booking page stops working and every board is locked — including for your own staff. Your data, however, stays.

If you just need quiet for a few weeks (renovation, holiday, off-season), don’t cancel. Switch Online booking off on the board, or move down to Start — that way you keep access to your schedule and clients. See §7.

1. Your four options

OptionYour public pageYour own accessWhat you pay
A smaller plan (e.g. Start)worksworks, with smaller limitsthe smaller price
Switch online booking offtakes no bookings (clients see “Online booking unavailable”)full accessthe same price
Cancel the subscriptionstops at the end of the period — 410 “This page is temporarily unavailable”every board gets lockednothing after the period ends
Delete the workspacegonegonethe subscription does NOT cancel itself — see §6

2. How to cancel — step by step

  1. Open Settings → Workspace settings → Subscription & billing.
  2. At the bottom of the side panel press Manage billing.
  3. Stripe’s portal opens.
  4. Find the current subscription and choose to cancel it (stop the renewal).
  5. Confirm in the portal.
  6. Return to Mountify. For a few seconds the panel says “Updating your subscription…”.

The Manage billing button only exists on a live paid subscription. On a trial there is nothing to cancel — simply don’t pick a plan and it will expire by itself (see Start your trial).

The portal is Stripe’s screen and is configured centrally. If there’s no cancel option there, contact support — we’ll do it from our side.

3. What you see after cancelling

The badge in the panel turns Canceled, and the line under it reads “Ends on {date} — access stays until then”.

Until that date nothing changes: the page takes bookings, boards work, money is recorded as usual. You don’t lose days you’ve already paid for.

4. What stops on the day it ends

This is the part that surprises people. Once the period runs out and the subscription is Canceled (or Expired):

For your clients:

  • The public booking page returns “This page is temporarily unavailable” and “This business isn’t accepting online bookings right now. Please contact them directly to schedule an appointment.”
  • The same goes for the links to a specific booking that clients received by email, and for their client area.
  • The widget embedded on your website shows the same message.

For you and your team:

  • Every board is replaced by a locked screen: Subscription canceled — “This workspace’s subscription was canceled. Reactivate a plan to open the board again.” + a Choose a plan button.
  • That means no schedule, no board clients, no Money — the whole board interior sits behind the lock.
  • Any attempt to change something (a new booking, a payment) is refused by the server too.

What still works: signing in, the boards list, the Subscription & billing page, workspace settings, team and invitations, and your personal profile. So you can always pay and reopen your business.

The full state-by-state table: What happens if the subscription stops.

5. Your data stays

Cancelling deletes nothing: boards, services, resources, locations, clients, bookings, payments, reviews, packages, files. Everything waits.

When you pay again:

  • boards unlock immediately (plus a few seconds to sync);
  • the public page works again at the same address;
  • locations switched off by an earlier downgrade come back by themselves;
  • resources switched off by a downgrade do NOT come back — re-enable them by hand from Catalog → {resource kind}.

6. Careful: deleting the workspace does not stop the billing

If you delete the workspace from Settings → Delete this workspace, the dialog warns: “This deletes ‘{name}’ and all its boards, bookings, clients and data. It stays recoverable for 30 days, then it’s permanently removed.”

But the Stripe subscription stays alive and keeps charging. The correct order is:

  1. Cancel the subscription in the portal first.
  2. Wait for the badge to read Canceled.
  3. Only then delete the workspace (if you really mean to).

7. Better alternatives to cancelling

SituationDo this instead
Seasonal business, closed for 3 monthsMove to Start (€9/mo) — you keep your schedule and clients
Renovation, no new bookings wantedSwitch Online booking off in Setup → Public site; the board stays yours
It’s too expensiveMove down a tier and drop the add-ons — Change your plan
You don’t need CRM/classesSwitch those add-ons off — Add-ons
Closing the business for goodCancel, export what you need, then delete the workspace

8. Common questions

Is there a subscription pause? No. No such feature. The nearest thing is a smaller plan or switching online booking off.

Will you refund the unused days? Cancelling stops the renewal; access stays until the end of the period. Unused add-on credit can be refunded on request — ask support.

Will I get an email before it stops? Mountify sends no subscription emails. You see the date in the panel (“Ends on {date}”) and the in-app strip. Invoices and notices from Stripe go to the subscription’s email address.

Can I come back on the same page address? Yes. Your address (slug) stays yours until you delete the workspace.

Will my clients see that I stopped paying? No. They see a neutral “This page is temporarily unavailable” and an invitation to contact you directly.

Do bookings already made for next week get lost? They’re not deleted. But while the subscription is down you can’t open the board to see them, and the client can’t open their link.

Who can cancel? Only someone with the Manage workspace settings permission — see Who can manage the subscription.
