Which branches a service is offered at
The 'Locations' section in the service editor — all branches or specific ones, and what happens if the chosen ones are inactive.
Once you run more than one venue, not every service is offered everywhere. The laser treatment is only at the new salon; kids’ haircuts only at the old one. The Locations section in the service editor answers exactly that question: which branches can a customer book this service at.
The path is Catalog → Offerings → the pencil on the card → the Locations section at the very bottom of the form.
1. When you see this section at all
The Locations section (“Restrict this offering to specific branches.”) only appears when the board has at least two locations.
- One venue → the section doesn’t exist in the editor. The service is offered where you are, and there’s nothing to configure.
- Two or more locations → the section appears last in the form, and a Locations row is added to the section rail on the left with a summary (“All locations” or a count).
Locations live in Catalog → Locations. They’re a paid feature and your plan caps how many you may have — see Plan limits and what gets locked and Add a location.
2. The two states
The whole section is one switch plus a picker.
”Available at all locations” — on (the default)
The help text reads: “When you add a new location later, this offering will be available there automatically.”
That sentence is the point. This state doesn’t mean “all of today’s branches are ticked” — it means “everywhere, including branches that don’t exist yet”. Open a third salon next year and the service shows up there on its own.
”Available at all locations” — off
The help text switches to: “Pick exactly which branches it’s available at. Other branches won’t see it.”
A picker appears listing every location on the board. The first location is ticked automatically so you’re never left at zero selected — a state that means nothing good.
Tick the branches where the service is offered. Every other branch won’t show it at all — not in the list, not in search.
Turning the switch back on clears the selection completely and makes the service “everywhere” again. There is no remembered previous choice — the next time you switch it off, you start from scratch.
3. What the customer sees
On a multi-location board the customer first picks a branch (or arrives on a direct link to one). From there:
| Service state | What the customer sees |
|---|---|
| Available at all locations | the service is offered at every active branch |
| Specific branches ticked | the service appears only at those |
| The ticked branches are deactivated or archived | the service is offered nowhere |
That last row is a failure mode you can’t see from the editor. If a service suddenly vanishes for customers while looking fine on screen, check the picked locations first.
4. A location narrows the hours, not just the visibility
Picking a branch isn’t a label. It narrows which resources and which working hours feed the free-times calculation.
- Every branch has its own working hours. If none are set, the board’s hours apply. A service restricted to a branch that’s closed on Sunday has no Sunday slots — even if the other branch is open. See Hours by location.
- Every resource has a home location. A service at a branch with no suitable resource will show no times there.
- Both combine with the service’s other requirements: main resource, add-ons, specializations.
That’s why on the board’s home screen you may meet a line like “2 services have no Stylists at Downtown”. This is exactly that case: the service is allowed at the branch, but the branch has nobody to perform it.
5. Step by step: a service at one branch only
- Open Catalog → Offerings.
- Click the pencil on the service card.
- Scroll to the Locations section (or click it in the rail on the left).
- Turn off Available at all locations.
- In the picker, leave only the branch you want ticked.
- Press Save changes.
- Wait for the Checking availability… probe above the form. Green means the service has real free slots at the chosen branch.
- To be sure, open your public page, pick that branch and confirm the service is there — then pick the other one and confirm it isn’t.
6. What this section does NOT do
- It doesn’t set a different price per branch. The price is one, wherever the service is delivered.
- It doesn’t set a different duration per branch.
- It doesn’t move resources. Which stylist works at which branch is set on the resource, not here.
- It doesn’t affect bookings you enter yourself. The restriction applies to public booking; in the schedule you pick whatever you need.
- It doesn’t carry across boards. Locations belong to a board.
7. Error messages
| Message | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Locations — “Pick which of this board’s locations offer the service.” | zero branches ticked with the switch off | tick at least one, or turn the switch back on |
| ”One of the chosen locations doesn’t belong to this board. Re-pick the locations.” | a picked branch was deleted or belongs to another board | toggle the switch off and on, then pick again |
| Something needs a change | most often a deactivated or archived location in the selection | remove it from the list |
8. Troubleshooting
I have no “Locations” section. The board has one location or none. The section appears from the second one onwards.
The service doesn’t show at the new branch. If you restricted it to specific branches, new branches are not added automatically. Open the service and tick the new branch — or turn Available at all locations back on.
The service shows but has no free slots at that branch. The branch has no resource of the required kind, or it’s closed on those days. See Find out why a service shows no free times.
The service vanished from every branch. All the ticked branches are deactivated or archived. A location can also be deactivated by a plan change if the new plan allows fewer branches — see Plan limits and what gets locked.
I need a different price at the two branches. Not supported on one service. Create two services, each restricted to its own branch.
What’s next
- Services per location — the same question seen from the branch’s side.
- Hours by location — the second filter that cuts hours away.
- Close or remove a location — what happens to the services afterwards.
- Create a service — the whole editor.
