Workspace, board, location — which do you need?
The three structural levels and a decision table — when one board is enough, when you need a location, and when a second workspace.
Mountify has three structural levels, and every unpleasant surprise about team access, limits and price starts with confusing them. This article is the decision you make once — on day one — so you don’t have to redo it later.
| Level | What it is | How many you usually need |
|---|---|---|
| Workspace | The business: team, permissions, subscription, limits | One |
| Board | One bookable place: schedule, services, public page, currency, time zone | One (sometimes two) |
| Location | A branch inside the board: address and its own working hours | As many as you have venues |
The three levels
The workspace is the outer shell. Living on it:
- the team and their permissions (across every board at once);
- the subscription and what you pay Mountify;
- the limits — bookable spots and locations — counted workspace-wide;
- the country you chose at registration.
The board is the place a client books into. Living on it: working hours, currency, time zone, resource kinds and resources, services, the calendar, the till, clients, the public page and the Stripe connection.
A location is a branch inside the board. It has a name, address, phone, colour and its own working hours. Resources are assigned to locations through their working hours.
Decision table
Find your case in the left column:
| Your situation | What you need | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One salon, one or several masters | 1 workspace, 1 board, 1 location | The standard. Don’t overcomplicate. |
| Two branches, the same services and team | 1 board with 2 locations | One link for clients, one calendar with a branch filter, one till. Locations are billed above your plan’s limit. |
| Two venues with completely different services and prices | 2 boards | Different catalogs and different public pages live at board level. |
| Venues in different time zones or with different currencies | 2 boards | Currency and time zone belong to the board. |
| You want a separate brand and link for the second venue | 2 boards | The public page belongs to the board. |
| You want a separate Stripe account for the second venue | 2 boards | The payments connection is per board. |
| A salon plus, separately, a sports studio — same owner, shared billing | 2 boards in one workspace | Shared subscription and shared team, separate catalogs. |
| A staff member must see only one of the venues | 2 workspaces | The only way. Permissions are workspace-wide. |
| The two businesses run with separate accounting and separate contracts | 2 workspaces | The subscription is per workspace — the second one is billed separately and gets no trial. |
| Only the address differs (same team, same services) | one more location | Don’t create a board for an address. |
The rule in short: if the question is “is the team separate?” → workspace. “Is the catalog, the link, the currency separate?” → board. “Is the address separate?” → location.
The team belongs to the workspace, not the board
This is the fact that surprises nearly everyone: you cannot limit a person to one board. Invite a master from the second salon and they see the first one too.
What you can do:
- give them a custom role with narrow rights (no clients, no money, no settings, say) — see Build a custom role;
- split the businesses into two workspaces — that genuinely splits access, but means two subscriptions and no trial on the second.

Locations are capped and billed
A location is the one structural thing that touches your plan directly:
| Plan | Locations included |
|---|---|
| Start | 1 |
| Growth | 1 |
| Pro | 3 |
| Custom | no limit |
Beyond the limit you buy the Extra location add-on — €9/mo per site.
Important about the counting: the limit is workspace-wide, not per board. Two boards with two locations each = four locations against your limit.
Hit the ceiling and adding a new location raises: “You’ve reached your plan’s N locations — upgrade to add more.”
The same applies to bookable spots (active bookable resources): 1 on Start, 5 on Growth, 15 on Pro, unlimited on Custom, plus the Extra bookable spot add-on at €7/mo. See Plan limits and what gets locked.
Boards are NOT capped. The number of boards isn’t billed. You pay only for the resources and locations they contain.
Currency and time zone belong to the board
The two values that decide how every number and every hour looks live under Setup → Settings on each board:
- Currency — “Default currency for every price on this board (services, payments).”
- Time zone — “Every time on this board — slots, working hours, stats — is computed in this zone.”
Changing the currency converts nothing. The confirmation says so outright: past entries will simply be shown in the new currency. So if your venues trade in different currencies, that alone is a reason for separate boards. See Your venue’s currency.
Your Mountify subscription is always in euros, whatever your till’s currency — those are two separate accounts.
How to add each of the three
A new workspace
The monogram tile at the top of the narrow rail → Switch workspace → Create workspace. The hint spells out what you get: “A separate business — its own boards, team & billing.”
A second workspace is created with no trial — straight into Expired, and it asks for a plan before it opens. See Trial & going live.
A new board
Boards (the ACROSS BOARDS group → All boards) → New board. Four steps: The setup wizard.
A new location
Catalog → Locations → Add location.
In the New location dialog: Label (short, so you can tell branches apart), Address & map (type an address and pick a suggestion, or drag the pin), Phone (clients see it on the public booking page), Accent color (for the calendar) and a Primary branch switch — “The first branch a client sees. Only one branch can be primary.”
Working hours are not set here. The dialog says: “Working hours for this branch are configured in Setup → Working hours.” In detail: Add a location.
What can be changed later, and what can’t
| Thing | Changing it later |
|---|---|
| Workspace name | Easy, any time |
| Board name and description | Easy |
| A location’s address, phone, colour | Easy |
| Board currency | Possible, but it does not convert past amounts |
| Board time zone | Possible; changes which day counts as “today” for reports |
| The public page address (last part of the link) | Possible, but the old link stops working |
| The board preset | Not changeable — you reshape its contents instead |
| Moving a service between boards | Not possible — recreate it |
| Merging two workspaces | Not possible |
| Limiting a person to one board | Not possible |
Common questions
Can I start with one board and split later? You can add a second board any time, but the data doesn’t “split” itself: services, clients and history stay on the first. If you already know the venues will be separate, make them separate.
Will clients see both branches under one link? Yes, if they’re locations in one board. Separate boards each have their own link.
Will I get combined statistics for two venues? With locations in one board — yes, with a branch filter. With two boards there’s a summary Dashboard page (in the ACROSS BOARDS group), but the till and the reports are per board.
Can I have two workspaces on one account? Yes. Switch from the monogram tile. Remember each is billed separately.
What is “free”? Boards and users. What’s billed is bookable spots and locations above your plan’s limit.

- Add a location — a branch, step by step.
- Plan limits and what gets locked — the numbers that set your price.
