Can I limit someone to one salon?
Short answer: no — membership lives on the workspace. What you can do instead, and when you really need a second workspace.
“I have two salons in one Mountify. How do I make Maria see only the Lyulin one?” This is one of the most frequently asked questions and it deserves a straight answer rather than a workaround. This article gives that answer, explains why it works that way, lists what you can still do, and says when splitting the business into two workspaces is genuinely worth it.
1. Short answer: you can’t
Access can’t be limited to one board. There’s no switch, no setting, no role that does it. Everyone you invite will see every board in the workspace.
That applies to:
- the Boards list — all of them are there;
- the board switcher in the left rail;
- the schedule, the bookings, the services, the resources and the Money section of every board;
- any custom role you build.
2. Why it works that way
Because of how membership is built. A member is recorded as “this person is in this workspace with these rights” — and that’s all. There is no field that says “on this board only”. The board permission is one shared permission: Booking boards with the actions View · Add · Edit · Delete.
So this isn’t a missing setting you can switch on somewhere. The right to “see a board” doesn’t distinguish which board.
3. Visibility groups don’t help
Workspace settings has a Visibility groups tile and it sounds exactly like the solution. It isn’t.
Visibility groups hide rows in CRM only — Contacts and Companies. They have no effect on:
- boards;
- the schedule and bookings;
- booking clients;
- services, resources and locations;
- the Money section.
So don’t rely on them to separate two salons.
4. What you can still do
You can’t hide a board, but you can narrow sharply what the person does inside one.
Narrow the role
Build a custom role in which Booking boards is set to View only. That way the person:
- sees the schedule and bookings on every board;
- cannot change services, prices, working hours, locations or the public page;
- cannot finish the day.
The steps are in Build a custom role.
Switch off the sensitive permissions
| Take away | Result |
|---|---|
| View booking clients | The person doesn’t see the Clients page (for any salon) |
| Manage workspace settings | No subscription, no custom fields |
| Install and Use integrations | Doesn’t touch the Stripe connection |
| Delete on Bookings and Booking boards | Can’t delete anything |
| Manage loyalty rules, Manage landing banners | Doesn’t touch promotions |
Use locations if the two sites live on one board
If your two salons are locations on one board (rather than two separate boards), at least the working day is separated: working hours are per location, and resources and services can belong to a specific branch. That is not an access restriction — the person still sees both locations — but the schedule filters down and becomes far more practical. See Switch between locations.
5. If separation is mandatory: a second workspace
The only real way to separate teams is a second workspace. It is a separate business: its own boards, its own team, its own subscription.
- Click the business monogram tile at the top of the narrow rail on the left.
- Hover Switch workspace.
- At the bottom of the submenu click Create workspace — under the name it reads “A separate business — its own boards, team & billing.”
- You go through creating the workspace and its first board.
- Invite Maria into the new workspace only.
What it costs and what you lose
This isn’t a free solution. Before you do it, know:
| One workspace, two boards | Two workspaces | |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription | one | two — one per workspace |
| Free trial | 14 days | first workspace only. The second is created with no trial at all |
| Bookable-spots cap | shared | separate for each |
| Team | shared — everyone sees everything | fully separated |
| Clients | shared across the workspace | separated — the same human is two different clients |
| Money reports | per board, but everyone sees them | fully separated |
| You yourself | one login | one login, switching workspaces from the menu |
The practical advice: don’t split for “tidiness”. Split only if it is genuinely unacceptable for one manager to see the other site — because they’re different legal entities, say, or have different co-owners.
6. How you tell which is which
If you run two workspaces, the monogram menu shows the current workspace’s name and a plan chip (“Pro plan”). Inside the Switch workspace submenu a checkmark shows which one you’re in.
Common questions
Can I hide a board from the Boards list for one person? No. The list shows every non-archived board in the workspace to anyone who can view boards.
What if I archive the board? Then it disappears for everyone, not just for one person. Archiving is not an access tool.
Can a role limit someone to one location? No. Locations filter the schedule and working hours, but they are not an access boundary.
Will Maria see the other salon’s turnover? Yes, if she can view boards. The Money section opens with that right. If that’s the problem, narrow the role or split the workspaces.
Can I share clients across two workspaces? No. Clients belong to a workspace. Across two workspaces the same human is two separate clients with separate history and separate packages.
How many workspaces can I have? There’s no cap on the number. Each one needs its own subscription, though.
If I create a second workspace, do I get another 14 free days? No. The trial is granted on an account’s first workspace only.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You’re looking for a “per-board access” setting and can’t find it | It doesn’t exist | Narrow the role, or split the workspaces |
| You created “Visibility groups” and boards are still visible | Groups only cover CRM contacts and companies | See step 3 |
| A colleague edits services in the other salon | They hold Edit on Booking boards | Take them down to View in a custom role |
| You invited someone and they showed up in the other business too | You invited them to the workspace, which contains both boards | If they should only be in one business — remove them and invite them into the right workspace |
| The second workspace asks for payment straight away | The trial is first-workspace only | Pick a plan under Workspace settings → Subscription & billing |
